OR your problem might simply be that you have no DVD software on the computer so you need to rinstal software like VLC (free) to read the DVDs so you can watch a movie on the computer.Model: Samsung SE-208GB Portable 8x DVD Writer This may be complete bollocks without having seen the problem but it might be a starting point to solving the problem. I am going from memory here as I no longer use the drive I bought since I installed Ubuntu on the netbook. Isn't there a Quick Start guide to tell you what to do or is that on the disk as well?

Of course because it doesn't work it can't read the disk in the first place to install the driver.ġ) you copy the CD to a thumb drive and install the driver software that way - you need access to another computerĢ) you download the software from the net and instal it from there. The problem is that the plug and play doesn't work for the device and it needs a special driver.

I think I know what you are talking about, I have a similar USB writer (LG I think) for my netbook that I bought years ago. Does anyone have any experience of this sort of thing? Thanks in advance if anyone can help. I´ve tried a few different dvds but the same thing happens every time. Because there is no DVD tray or "slot" I have bought the above DVD writer so that I could watch DVDs, but although it works, I know that because I put the software disc in that came with it, when I put a dvd in it, nothing happens, the little green light flashes on and off for a few seconds then that's it. I have a new HP Envy laptop running on windows 8.1, I´m slowly getting to grips with it.
